There is a wide selection of iOS synth apps available, each with its own unique features. However, playing these apps using on-screen keyboards can present a significant challenge. Sidecar aims to address this issue by transforming your standard QWERTY keyboard into a robust MIDI controller. Specifically, the lower segment of the keyboard is designed to emulate a traditional piano layout, making it easier for users to play melodies with precision and accuracy.

One prominent feature of Sidecar is its flexibility and customization options. Users can create and store up to ten different setups, enabling quick switching between configurations with just a tap on the "QWERTY" row. Each setup includes ten configurable pads that can be assigned various functions such as playing specific notes or chords, generating program change messages, or sending control codes.

In addition to its MIDI capabilities, Sidecar offers support for scaling-configurable virtual keyboards, allowing users to select preferred scales and ensuring accurate note selection during play.

Furthermore, Sidecar facilitates integration with external keyboards as well as numerous game controllers, enhancing the overall user experience. While the app operates in slide-over and side-by-side mode on iPad devices, it remains universally compatible across different platforms.

From setting up chords for Animoog to selecting presets for ToneStack, each MIDI destination features ten configurable pads that can serve multiple purposes.
• QWERTY Keyboard Support: External keyboard support is enabled in Sidecar, allowing rapid switching between the ten configured MIDI destinations using the QWERTY row keys. Users can easily toggle the pads on or off by pressing the corresponding number keys, with the lower rows of keys serving as a standard piano keyboard layout.
• AUv3 Support: Sidecar integrates AUv3 support for seamless use within preferred DAWs or loopers, providing convenient access to multiple synths. Moreover, many AUv3 hosts permit mapping keyboard keys to transport controls.
• Game Controller Ready: Besides keyboard support, Sidecar also caters to game controllers like the iON iCade, allowing mapping of controller buttons to the pads for enhanced functionality
• MIDI Relay: The app supports external MIDI controllers transmitting MIDI events to Sidecar which can then be relayed to any of the ten selected MIDI destinations, simplifying quick transitions between different synths.
